Firm Creates Pathways to Family Wealth

Creating generational wealth takes honest and courageous communication among family members. It also takes a longevity-oriented perspective reaching far beyond the lifespan of the first generation.

Scott McMillian, founding partner and CEO of Sendero Wealth Management based in Dallas and San Antonio, Texas, uses these principles to guide the financial planning methodology of the firm he helped establish in 2008.

According to McMillian, “We are passionate about assisting you in improving your community and grooming future generations to succeed in their roles as heirs, family representatives and community leaders.”

McMillian brings more than 23 years of financial planning expertise in working with his clients, most of whom are high-net worth families. Beginning his career in 1990 in Arthur Anderson's personal financial planning group, in 1998, he joined PaineWebber in San Antonio, which later turned into Redstone Consulting. Then, in 2008, he led the transition of that office to form Sendero.
The word Sendero is Spanish for a pathway or trail through the wilderness. It was chosen to reflect the firm’s role in helping families and charitable organizations successfully traverse the various challenges and obstacles encountered on the path to financial stability.

McMillian selects account managers for Sendero's clients by a unique process. The firm strategically monitors the performance of small to mid-tier managers, who themselves have a significant portion of their personal financial assets dedicated to the same investment strategies they recommend to their clients. After identifying a high-performing manager, Sendero’s philosophy is to determine whether that manager’s personality matches that of the client. If so, then Sendero brings the manager on board, negotiating fees with the manager on behalf of the client.
According to McMillian, “The result is a platform of elite traditional and alternative managers with proven investment strategies accessible to you at reasonable fees.”
