Show me the Purpose - of the Money

Instead, it ought to focus on the purpose those dollars represent for funding the aspirations, dreams and goals of the investing client who seeks or uses the services of a financial advising professional.

So believes Jeff Karp, founder and president of Karp Financial Strategies, based in Mooresville, NC.

“The important part of our business is being client-centric in listening to them,” Karp said. “Some practices put more focus on the technical aspects of money management – and effective money management is absolutely critical. But what we do is to dig deep into the purpose of that money, versus just its existence.”
Karp prefers clients who share his viewpoint.

He believes his skill set is best equipped to work with those who are near to or just beginning their retirement lifestyles, when cash flow takes on a financial lifeblood identity. This is when many begin to live those dreams that sustained them through long work weeks. “Yet oftentimes, the newly retired approach the freedom of not punching a clock with hesitation,” Karp said. “They aren’t sure they can effectively enter this next phase of their lives.”

“One of the reasons my blog is titled, ‘Permission Granted,’ is because of the experiences I have had with people actually asking if it is okay to do some of the things they want to do in their lifetimes – as if their creative ideas, goals or dreams are not okay to have,” Karp said. The bit of remorse in his voice more than hinted at his desire to see clients achieve beyond the end of their careers. “The people who have things they want to do make my talents, resources, knowledge and education all the more valuable to them because I can take what they are dreaming about, implement that through planning and make it happen.”

Making those dreams a reality – whether they be travel around the world, funding college education, starting a second career, owning a second home in the mountains or at the beach – requires professional planning.

“It does not happen by chance, but instead it happens by planning and commitment from both the advisor and the client,” Karp said. That last sentence sums up his goals for 2016.
He wants to help clients create income consistency for their retirement years as they navigate the inevitable ups and downs of the investment market.

“My goals are to support and help as many people – specifically in the area of being able to identify the purpose of their retirement funding and how to meet that need – as I possibly can. As I help them understand what they are trying to accomplish, I can help get them oriented in that direction,” Karp said.
