An Experienced Guide

Experience is the best educator – and an even better motivator. For Terry Allen, a seasoned financial advisor of over 25 years, experience not only helps her create solid wealth accumulation and management strategies for clients, it was also the reason she got started in the industry in the first place.

Allen, who originally began her career in the telecommunications and banking industries, found herself heeding poor investment advice from a financial planner in the mid-1980s. After losing a substantial sum, she made it her mission to become educated on the intricacies of wealth management.

Driven to help keep others from falling victim to costly advice, Allen soon became licensed and dedicated herself to providing her clients with the best information, education and technology available for making solid investment decisions.

Today, Allen is president of Enhance Wealth Advisors®, a Northern California wealth management firm focusing on establishing lasting trust-based relationships with clients.
“We have a one-on-one relationship with our clients,” Allen said. “We listen to them and we customize our advice. It’s not cookie-cutter. We want them to have a good quality of life.”
At Enhance Wealth Advisors®, clients don’t need to worry about keeping up with popular industry jargon. Allen acknowledged that every client’s primary concern is to know that they will be okay, no matter what happens in the market or in their own personal circumstances. She likens her role to that of a guide helping clients navigate the tough decisions, while steering clear of rocky bottoms or euphoric buying periods during market peaks.

“Ultimately, it’s the client’s money – and our advice needs to be such that they are able to sleep at night,” Allen emphasized, adding that a crisis of confidence more than an overvaluation of stocks was at the root of the 2008 economic collapse. “I learned how contagious panic is.”

She is also an advocate of saving money and living within one’s means. Allen believes that the  one up side to the crisis was that people began re-adjusting their priorities, creating emergency funds and relying less on credit cards and equity lines. This is even more important when looking at real estate investments, an area where Allen has a lot of personal and professional experience.

Planning for any eventuality – including living beyond 100 – is the cornerstone of Allen’s philosophy. By using advanced software, she is able to run a wide array of scenarios with her clients, either in person or online, to predict the long-term cause and effect of different life circumstances and investment decisions.

Choosing the right investments is also paramount for success. Allen only recommends investments that are best for the individual client, often purchasing the same for herself and her family when in similar circumstances.

“Most importantly,” Allen said, “You’ve got to start today. You’ve got to come up with a plan and stick with it, revisit it and revise it.”
